Fatty Liver

Fatty Liver Treatment

At the time being, there is no one single absolute proven fatty liver treatment. There are no conventional medications for fatty liver as most other common diseases usually have.

Basically, the treatment depends on the fatty liver type. If it is an alcoholic fatty liver, then the best treatment would be simply to stop drinking alcohol.

However, if it is a non-alcoholic fatty liver (NALFD), then the only effective treatment would be changing eating habits, weight loss, doing more physical activity, and generally living a more healthy lifestyle.

Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Treatment

As there are no medications for fatty liver, there are some main things needed to be focused on when we are talking about treatment:

Fatty Liver Treatment

  1. Weight – being overweight is one of the main causes of non-alcoholic fatty liver development. You need to start a proper diet program for fatty liver to loose weight. Start by reading about diet for fatty liver, diet for liver detox and the importance of fatty liver weight loss. I also recommend getting the Fatty Liver Diet guide of Dorothy Spencer BSN, RN. It helped many of my patients.
  2. Food and Drinks – avoid eating food with high levels of fat, cholesterol and sugar; in addition, try to avoid carbonated drinks. These foods are the main reason for fat build-up around the liver. Instead, start eating healthy food that contains high amount of dietary fiber and other beneficial nutrition. You can get all the details you need from these articles: foods for fatty liver, fruits for fatty liver, and vegetables for fatty liver.
  3. Exercise – start exercising and do physical activities, regularly – such as jogging, walking fast, swimming, and even dancing. Exercise will increase your metabolism, and thus will replace your body fat with muscles. Three times per week would do wonders.
  4. Nutritional Supplements – there are some natural cures for fatty liver that you could add to your fatty liver treatment program. Basically, it is believed that nutrition supplements, such as Omega-3 fatty acids, could be helpful. Remember, there are no medications for fatty liver. I also recommend getting the Natural Fatty Liver Solution guide by Duncan Capicchiano N.D. I cannot express enough of how this guide changed the lives of many of my own patients.

    Hello Manish,
Weight loss, diet control, and exercise, are very efficient to cure fatty liver disease.
It takes just few months to see improvement in the disease, but could take years before total cure of fatty liver.
After the disease is cured, you need to take attention of you health your whole life. Meaning – watch what you eat, control your weight, and liver a healthy liver in general.
This is mainly because your body and liver are vulnerable to the disease, and mis-care could return it.

    Best regards,
    Dr. Mark Bar-Gomel

I have been advised by my Gastro to take Liv 52 Ds tab for been diagnosed NAFLD. I am also overweight. Please advice should I continue as I am using it for the last 2 weeks.

    Regards, Anand

  5. Mark Bar-Gomel Says:

    Hello Anand,

As I tell to many of my patients, “natural” medications, such as Liv 52 DS, should only be taken as an addition to a proper acceptable treatment for fatty liver and not as a replacement.

In general, a proper treatment for NALFD is diet, physical activity, and changing your eating habits.

    Dr. Mark Bar-Gomel

My husband is 22 and 5’9, 190-195lbs. He is very muscular and does very strenuous hard labor work. He was diagnosed with a fatty liver. He doesn’t drink. We don’t understand how he got this, and how the main thing is to lose weight when he isn’t “fat” and to exercise when he literally does all day.

  12. Kathy Says:

I was told that you can reverse NAFLD, but not NASH. Is that accurate? I eat a very healthy diet, exercise all the time, yet still have NASH.

  13. Ian Says:

I have the same question above that Kathy has, about NASH, I was diagnosed a month ago, but since then with diet exercise and herbal remedies, my liver tests are all normal. Can NASH be cured completely as it is under the umbrella of NAFLD. My officail diagnosis after biopsy was mild seatohepatitis?

    Thanks

    Ian

  14. Zoe Baet Says:

High fructose corn syrup has been found to be a chief cause of non alcoholic fatty liver disease. Avoid it at all costs.
